About This Item
Philadelphia: Porter & Coates, 1872. This is a lovely edition of one of Bobby Burns's most popular poems, presented in a decorative full-leather binding. A Very Good (Plus) copy. Gilt lettering on the front cover. Numerous illustrations by Frederick Augustus Chapman (engraved by J. Filmer). Unpaginated; approximately ......rounded pages, all gilt. There is no publication date, but per bibliographic concensus, Quercus observes 1872 as probable. This was a very popular book, and the publisher issued it many times, in differing bindings, until ultimate bankruptcy (Quercus makes no judgement if multiple bindings were the cause). This leather version seems less common than others. At any rate, a sweet little volume. Minor rubbing along the margins; one edge of the spine has split on the outside, but the book is holding well.. First Thus. Full-Leather. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. Illus. by F.A. Chapman. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
