About This Item
Glasgow: Published and Sold Wholesale by Lumsden & Son, 1815. 24mo, pp. 32. Original blue sugar-paper wrappers printed in black with series logo, front wrapper additionally titled in ink. Poor-quality paper a touch spotted. A sharp chapbook with 9 woodcut illustrations. Roscoe and Brimmell cite 5 that they rather waspishly claim ‘ape John Bewick, but are hardly good enough for Lee,’ but Tattersfield attributes them to Thomas Bewick’s apprentice Edward Willis. Tattersfield also notes that this title is a piracy of Elizabeth Newbery’s 1799 publication Little Tales for Little People, with mirrored illustrations. Roscoe & Brimmell 95; Tattersfield TB 2.107.

About McNaughtan's Bookshop
Established in 1957, McNaughtan's Bookshop is the oldest surviving secondhand and antiquarian bookshop in Scotland. Located in the basement of a listed 1820s tenement building at the top of Edinburgh's Leith Walk, we are the only open shop in Edinburgh holding membership of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association. We stock rare, antiquarian, and collectable books on all subjects, along with a substantial range of secondhand books for browsing. Our gallery space currently hosts Typewronger Books, offering new books and secondhand typewriters.
