About This Item

New York: Lane & Scott, 1849. George Cubitt (1791-1850) was a Methodist Episcopal minister and historian. First published in 1848, conveniently in during the Mexican War, this popular history ran to at least ten editions during the 19th Century, but is uncommon now. This is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the Second Printing, with revisions by Daniel P. Kidder (1815-1891). Published "For the Sunday-School Union of the Methodist Episcopal Church."Marbled paper-covered boards with black leather tips and spine; titling and rules in gilt on the spine (along with the number "438" at the foot; possibly school library number). Clean text; frontis engraving of Cortes, 218 pages. Rubbed along the margins, covers probably faded, but remains nicely attractive. The text is quite bright and unfoxed. . Later Printing. Hard Cover. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
