Quarter calf with raised bands and gilt lettering and brown marbled paper over boards. x, 395pp; ix, 423pp. Top edges gilt. Frontispiece (Volume I), marbled endpapers, sewn-in burgundy silk page marker. Very good. Mild edgewear. A tight and nice first edition of the huge array of letters penned by the diplomat and prolific historian (1814-77).
