Rockliff, London, 1946. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: Photographic. introduction by author, list of plates and index. Black-and-white photographic frontispiece showing Sir Robert Helpmann in the Modern Ballet "Line". The text is illustrated with numerous black-and-white photographs. Red coloured cloth covered boards with silver coloured titles to the back strip. On the front panel a school shield has been embossed  in gilt. Photographic dustwrapper, same photograph as for frontispiece, with pink coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. An overview of contemporary / modern Ballet in the 1940s. The book goes into the general aspects of contemporary ballet, the state-of-the-art in England, particularly in relation to Sadler's Wells, and, finally, the potential and possible future of contemporary ballet. Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges with bumping to the top book corners and rubbing of the lower book edges. Some rubs to the book panels and a little fading of the back strip. Age toning and scattered foxing to the text block edges. Lighter age toning of the pages; which also shows a few handling marks. School prize plate affixed to the free front endpaper. Some bleeding of the book colour to the top edges of the rear end pages and along the sides as well  bleeding of the book colour. Chipping to the dustwrapper corners and to the back strip edges. The top edge shows numerous small tears with associated creasing, while the lower front edge has a small closed tear. Fading to the back strip and the panels show rubbing.
