Second Edition; Demy 8vo; pp. Vol. I. xxviii, 517; Vol. II. viii, 491; two hand-coloured frontispieces of costume, one folding plate of antiquities, and one folding plate "View of Constantinople from the Hills behind Scutari' (this plate is often missing from volume two, contemporary half calf, brown morocco spine labels, title lettered in gilt on each volume, covers rubbed, endpapers a little browned, a good set. Authors first-hand account of 19th-century Turkish life, both military and civilian. This second edition was published in the same year as the first and includes the Appendix not present in the first edition.
