The author's first science fiction novel, inscribed First edition, first impression, of the author's sci-fi debut, inscribed by him on the title page, "To James - a demanding dingbat, from Iain Banks, 11/04/1987". This copy was presumably inscribed by Banks at Forbidden Planet's signing event for Consider Phlebas, held at The Science Fiction and Comic Book Shop in London. This title, the first in the Culture series, is uncommon inscribed. Octavo. Original yellow cloth, spine lettered in black. With dust jacket. Spine ends bumped, contents lightly toned, top edge foxed; jacket lightly creased, tiny chip at foot of spine, a couple of corners nicked, unclipped: a near-fine copy in like jacket.
