London: Congregational Union of England and Wales, 1887. n/a. Hardcover. g. 8vo. xxxiv. 655pp. xvi. 160pp. (4)238(2)pp. Black leather with gilt lettering to cover and spine. Age wear to spine and edges. Some small white stains and some scuffing to cover. Beveled edges. All gilt page edges. Silk endpapers. Gilt stamped inscription on endpaper to Mr. Edwin Bell. Inside dentelles in gilt. Hinges starting. This book is in three parts. Part 1 covers "Hymns with Tunes," part 2 "Litanies And Chants," and part 3 entails "Anthems." Harmonies in part 1 were revised by E.J. Hopkins. Josiah Booth arranged the pointing and selected the music in part 2 and also edited part 3 with George S. Barrett. This book was edited for "The Congregational Union of England and Wales." The book contains 775 hymns, 8 metrical litanies, 20 Canticles pointed for chanting, a metrical version of the Dies Irae, 125 portions of psalms or other passages of scripture also pointed for chanting, and 120 Anthems. Overall in good condition.
