New York: Harper and Brothers, 1885. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. First American edition. xxvii, 528; x, 483pp. with 12 pages of ads at rear. Original green cloth stamped in gilt, white, red, black, and white. Near Fine set with both large maps in rear pockets, all illustrations and other fold-out maps, bright gilt, internally clean and bright. Light rubbing to edges, tiny stain to front cover, a bit of foxing to edges. Hinges at front a bit free, boards slightly curved. An excellent set of the Victorian-era adventurer's lavishly illustrated African travelogue and history (including his famous rescue of Dr. Livingston), scarce in such nice shape.
