DJ/NF w/faint creasing to lower front edge by spine. PO name to rear endpaper. Trace soiling to text edges. Post-humous anthology of extracts from personal journals of park ranger, novelist, writer, naturalist and social critic Edward Paul Abbey (1927 - 1989) began keeping since 1946. The public knows Abbey through his writings, notably Desert Solitaire and novel The Monkey Wrench Gang. A good friend of Abbey, editor David Peterson has minimized his own presence to allow this volume to be "pure Abby". With few exceptions, line drawings included were directly produced from the journal notebooks.
