About This Item

Adyar, Madras,, India: The Theosophical Publishing House - London Limited, 1986. First Edition . Hard Back. Very Good. 6 3/4" x 9 1/2. 219 Pages. Blue cloth with silver lettering to spine and front board. No defects noted to this tight book with flawless interior text pages. No bumped corners, marks, or stamps. The theme of this work is that certain of the Myths of ancient times are far more than mere folk tales. Sages, seers, prophets and inspired authors added to these material of very great significance. The wisdom attained by the advanced people of ancient times was deliberately concealed as in a tabernacle, was enshrined therein, by the Sages of old. These wise ones on occasion thus embellished the Myths so that they became vehicles for a sublime, but dangerously power-bestowing knowledge. Hence the enveiling. The purpose for which this book has been conceived and written is to offer for consideration the more immediately applicable and constructive portions of the Wisdom of the Ages learnt primarily from the revelations of H.P. Blavatsky. These have been made available in her truly inspired works, Isis Unveiled and The Secret Doctrine, The Key to Theosophy, The Voice of the Silence, and The Theosophical Glossary are works strongly to recommend. Contents in 10 Chapters: Through Fairy Tale and Myth to Theosophia, The Symbols of the Serpent and the Rod, The Life Labours and Ascension of Heracles, The Argonauts, The Helios Principle, The Eros Principle, The Hephaestus Principle, The Unicorn, Prometheus Imprisoned by Zeus Freed by Heracles, and Cadmus the founder of Thebes. Plus Epilogue, Appendices, Glossary, and Scientists' Affirmations.
