About This Item

London: Heinemann, 1967. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Dust Jacket Included. London, Heinemann, 1967 to 1988 (all first editions, with the exception of Volume 3, a second impression in the same year as the first edition). Octavo, eight volumes, approximately 10,000 pages in all, plus numerous plates. Red cloth with top edges dyed red (or papered boards with plain top edges on Volumes 6 and 8); some cloth-bound volumes slightly flecked, with the top-edge dye a little faded in places; Volume 6 has an 'Illustrated London News' review clipping mounted on the front free endpaper, and a small light stain to the leading edge, with minimal cockling to the top corner-tip of the first 30 leaves; minimal signs of age and use; an excellent set with the dustwrappers (three of them price-clipped, the first three slightly chipped, with slightly bubbled laminate and a few short tears, and all but Volumes 6 and 8 the uniform edition version). Specific details of the individual volumes are as follows.

Volume 1: Youth, 1874-1900 (1965).

Volume 2: Young Statesman, 1901-1914 (1967).

Volume 3: The Challenge of War, 1914-1916 (1971/ 1971).
