About This Item
In the original dustsheet. Green cloth binding with black title on the spine and front board.
Joyce Mercer FIRST EDITION No date; circa 1936. Pages very good, no writing; attractively toned. Montage illustrated endpapers. Dynamically and wonderfully complex art deco style imagery by Joyce Mercer throughout. Includes sixteen colour plates and over two hundred and fifty black and white drawings. Dust wrapper, with moderate shelf wear, rare wrapper features effusive montage of scenes in colour at front panel wrapping around to spine. Rare very good example in near very good original wrapper. From front flap summary: "The exquisite art of Miss Joyce Mercer has never found a more suitable medium than the illustration of these famous tales. Although children enjoy the stories in themselves, there is a great advantage in having them illuminated with the wit and understanding of Miss Mercer's imagination, for they enable the youthful mind to envisage with greater clarity the characters and incidents in the stories, and we do not doubt that this will be accepted as the edition of Andersen and Grimm." The complete edition with 318 and 252 pages.
