About This Item

Pasadena, Ca: Athena Press, 2024. 1st Edition . No Binding. Fine. The Assumption Of These Papers Is That The Only Justification For Government Activity Is To Provide For The Common Welfare. However, There Is No Reasonable Assumption That Political Leaders Are Focused On Providing For The Common Welfare More Than They Are Motivated To Maintain And Increase Their Own Power And Income. The Worlds Of Print, Digital Media, Large Businesses, And Universities Explore And Report On Newly Discovered Facts And Newly Formulated Ideas, But Fail To Explore In Depth The Infinitely Complicated Causes And Effects Which Would Constitute Real World Dynamics. This Is True To Some Degree In Every Field, Even The Biological And Physical Sciences, But Is Almost Universally True In The Fields Of History And Social Science. For Example, There Are Extremely Sophisticated (Or Crude) Philosophical Ideas About The Purpose Of Modern Government (Now Evolving In Various Interpretations Of "For The Common Welfare" Rather Than The Older "For The Sovereign's Will). However, The Real-World Effectiveness Of Government In Each Of Its Activities Is Worthy Of Empirical, Impartial And Non-Political Study. We See Field Studies Measuring Stated Goals Versus Results, Or Comparisons Of Artificial Statistics Like Gdp, But The Biggest Issues Are Unaddressed. Detailed Studies Of Exactly Why Particular Governmental Or Business Or Institutional Programs Fail, And Who Exactly Was Responsible For Each Element Of That Failure. Further, Comparative Studies Would Be Possible Showing Comparisons Of Characteristics Of Government, Say, Degree Of Autocracy, With Other Factors Such As Population Density And Homogeneity, Caloric Intake, Provisions Of Familial And State Child Care, Deaths In Recent Wars And Disasters, Birth And Death Rates, Health Measures, Religiosity, Income And Wealth Distribution, Education And Educational Distribution, Media Usage, Tobacco Usage, Alcohol Usage, And Every Other Possible ( And Usually Controversial) Variable- Because Whether Autocracy Is Good Or Bad, We Need To Understand The Correlates Before We Can Even Begin To Understand The Dynamics Of Causes And Effects. Modern Culture Examines And Questions The Assumptions And Prejudices And Ancestral Roots Of Our Ideas Of Common Welfare, And To Debate These, But There Is An Alternative: To Impartially Study The Dynamics Of Changes Towards Or Away From "What Is Better Government", Whatever Definition Of Better Government And Common Welfare Is Used. The Public World Is Concerned About Showing How One Person's Ideas Are (Competitively) Better And Reasonable, Rather Than Exploring And Reporting The Nature Of The Dynamics Of That World By Looking Widely And Impartially At The Connections Of Causes And Effects However These Results Might Reflect Upon The Medium Of The Message. Individually We Like Being Admired (And Feared) But We Seldom Want To Get Impartial Evidence That We're Just Not Doing A Very Good Job Of It In Everything We Do In Our Public And Private Lives. However, Our Youth-Oriented Culture Isn't Fully Aware Of How Increasing Experience Leads To Increasing Evidence That This Is Indeed The Case To A Degree Unimagined By The Young.
