About This Item

This First Edition copy of Collier's -The National Weekly for May 23, 1914 was published by P. F. Collier and Son, New York, with Mark Sullivan as Editor. Collier's was an American general interest magazine founded in 1888 by Peter Fenelon Collier. It was launched as Collier's Once a Week, then renamed in 1895 as Collier's Weekly: An Illustrated Journal, shortened in 1905 to Collier's: The National Weekly and eventually to simply Collier's. The magazine ceased publication with the issue dated the week ending January 4, 1957, although a brief, failed attempt was made to revive the Collier's name with a new magazine in 2012.

This copy of the magazine, which measures approximately 10.75 inches wide by 15 inches tall, contains 40 numbered pages of text, illustrations, advertisements, and paper covers. The front cover, illustrated by Wallace Morgan, lists the four featured articles in this issue. They are Abroad at Home – American Ramblings, Observations, and Adventures by Julian Street, With Funston's Men – Our Army and Navy in Peaceful Action by Jack London, War Drawings by Henry Reuterdahl, and Photographs by James H. Hare. The magazine also contains continuations of serialized articles, opinions, political items and more.

The magazine is complete – no missing or detached pages. There are some signs of wear, particularly in mild chipping and tears along the outer edges and spine of the magazine. The overall condition of the issue is very good.

The illustrations accompanying this description show the magazine's front cover and a photo of each of the featured articles.

About Pages For Sages

Pages For Sages has been in the business of buying and selling rare and used books, ephemera, and other unusual items for over forty years. We have long depended on book fairs, printed catalogs, auctions, and the like to support the business. Now, in our later years (ages 90 and 92) we are taking this step to display a catalog of inventory on the Biblio web site for your consideration. The number of our listings will grow as we continue the process of adding items from our inventory - please come back from time to time to find additional offerings.
