First two volumes published in 1723, with the third volume being the second edition of 1738. x, 288; xv, 266; xvii, 264 pp. Illustrated with numerous copper plates. Red full straight-grained morocco with gilt decoration to boards and gilt lettering and devices to spines; a.e.g.; marbled endpapers. Some rubbing and very light bumping to extremities. Bookplate of William Forbes Morgan, of the Morgan family, to pastedowns. Some ink ownership marks to prelims of first volume. Internally clean otherwise. The second volume includes the plates of the Swimming Lady and Lady Godiva, which were surpressed in later editions and are often missing. A lovely set. . Near Fine. Full Straight-grained Morocco. First Editions. 1723.

Description:
London: J. Roberts, 1872. Leather. Very Good. 12mo. 3 volumes: 287, 266, and 263 pp. Paneled brown calf with gilt acorn embellishment to corners. 5 raised bands to spines, with gilt titling and decorative stamping. Dotted gilt board edges and turn-ins. Marbled endpapers with bookplate of Jacobus Cowan de Rosshall, Armigeri. Ex-libris stamp with initials "C.S.D." to verso ffeps. Spines and title pages dated 1723-1725, but this is a later printing. Bound by J. (John) Ramage & Co. (1836-1911) with small gilt binder's stamp. Cracking to hinges and few points in text, binding fragile but tight. Some scuffing to leather, esp at spines. Light dampstaining to prelims at bottom edge of all volumes, rest clean and sound.
