Edinburgh & London. William Blackwood and Sons. 1896. Hardcover. 12mo, 17cm, third edition, 191,[4]p., publisher's ads., frontis portrait (author), original green cloth, gilt spine titles, attractive gilt flora decoration & titles in frame border on the upper cover, t.e.g., Author's Signed Presentation copy with four lines poems, some fade speckling but very good to fine condition (gar). ~ A collection of poetry by American poet, Wallace Bruce (1844 1914) displaying the bonds between America and Scotland. The author had been the American Consul in Edinburgh from 1889 to 1893. The signed inscription also contains a hand written poem by Wallace Bruce: "The crowning need of praise/ To him who makes a People's songs./ Who strikes one note the common good./ One chord a wider brotherhood." (1904).
