VG+; a few pages have slight corner bends, otherwise like new condition. Mary and Paul Knowles are partners in English Garden Publishers, and Mary is also a breast cancer survivor. This book was undertaken to raise money for breast cancer research. "Twenty writers and poets have contributed their unpublished works, free of charge, to "Close to the Heart". Fourteen Canadian companies and families have donated the money needed to publish the book". This is an interesting collection of otherwise-unavailable short works from noted writers, including Carol Shields, Uma Parameswaran, Maggie Siggins, and Edna Staebler (interviewed by Paul Knowles). Complete list of contributors on request. In keeping with the original intent of this book, 50% of the selling price will be donated to breast cancer research in Reading Rat's hometown. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
