About This Item

Boston and Toronto:: Little, Brown and Company, 1954. A clean, tight copy. Attractive Dust Jacket painting by Don Freeman wraps-around to include the spine. Pages are fresh and unmarked. SIGNED/ INSCRIBED by Anderson to author and playwright Isabel Leighton [THE ASPIRIN AGE 1919-1941; MY BOY FRANKLIN; SPRING AGAIN; WHERE AWAY, A MODERN ODYSSEY; WHITEMAN'S BURDEN; FAT GIRL; etc]. Laid-in is the mailing label to Leighton's Park Avenue address in New York. This book is the follow-up to Anderson's Texas classic: I AND CLAUDIE (one of A.C. Greene's FIFTY BEST BOOKS ON TEXAS). It reprises Clint Hightower and his sidekick Claudie, a pair of Gentle Grafters who, according to Greene, roam Texas "outsmarting bankers and oilmen, but often falling victim to their own softheartedness or their own cleverness." From the Dust Jacket: "From time to time, Claudie Hughes had talked a lot about his well-heeled kinfolk in Texas -- they were, as Clint Hightower put it, 'like a jack to his model-T mind... At their first stop a dispute over the number of bottles of ketchup a man is entitled to put into one fifteen-cent bowl of chili leads to a narrow escape.'" Bound in the original yellow boards, lettered/decorated in brown on the spine and front cover. . INSCRIBED / SIGNED by the AUTHOR.. Hard Cover. Very Good condition./Near VG jacket (price clipped). Illus. by Don Freeman jacket art.. 8vo. (x), 277pp..

About About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
