About This Item

Washington, MO: Washington Historical Society (1st Edition, Washington History Series, 2013). Trade paperback, 220 pages. Clean and unmarked; binding square and tight; like new condition with the exception of a small, faint stain on the fore edge.

ABOUT THE BOOK: This volume is a unique compilation of Civil War stories that happened just outside St. Louis in a county bordering the southernmost section of the Missouri River. Many of those accounts are first-hand and vividly depict the fear and brutality soldiers experienced, as well as the bravery they showed, risking their lives to save their loved ones and communities. Whether or not you are a Civil War history devotee, this book is a compelling read. From the publisher.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: WALT LARSON's interest in the Civil War began with the discovery of ancestors on both sides of the conflict. Especially of interest to him were a great-grandfather and two great-great-grandfathers who spent three years together in the same infantry Company and survived the war in varying levels of health. Also, another great-grandfather of his reluctantly joined, but changed sides in the middle of the war.

His particular interest is those individuals that created a special story by their experience. Those stories can be found in family diaries, military records and old newspapers and have been passed down through the generations verbally.
