About This Item
NY: Scribners, 1932. First Trade. Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. FF11. The first trade edition, published ten years after the appearance of the privately printed limited edition of 1250 copies. Black and grey patterned cloth with yellow labels. Collection of striking short stories in somewhat experimental style, interlinking people from a single New York City block. The work first saw print in 1922 in the aforementioned limited private printing and was hailed as an original and profound work. It was translated into French and Russian (and later German and Spanish) but no further edition appeared in the U.S. (Frank rejected the idea of a slightly expurgated edition) until this one in 1932. A tight, bright, fine copy in the deco-inspired dust jacket, virtually unworn but somewhat sunned at the spine.
