About This Item

New Orleans: B.E. Trice, 1998. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. One of 50 deluxe copies, octavo size, 297 pp., signed by Cormac McCarthy, in publisher's slipcase. Cormac McCarthy (born Charles Joseph McCarthy, Jr., in 1933), is acknowledged by many as one of the greatest contemporary American writers. His first novel, "The Orchard Keeper", won a 1966 William Faulkner Foundation Award for notable first novel; "All the Pretty Horses" would win the National Book Award in 1992, and "No Country for Old Men", conceived as a screen play (and later turned into a novel) won four Academy Awards. He would eventually author twelve novels, three short stories, five screenplays and two plays.

The "Border Trilogy" begins with a quintessential coming-of-age story of two young cowboys. "All the Pretty Horses" won the U.S. National Book Award as well as the National Book Critics Circle Award. "The Crossing" is similar in that it, also, is a coming-of-age story, albeit with difference characters. McCarthy brought the two protagonists together later in their lives in this novel "Cities of the Plains", which easily stands alone as its own story.

This volume one of the fifty deluxe versions of the special signed edition published by B.E. Trice, McCarthy's signature on the limitation page tipped into the front of the book.

___DESCRIPTION: Bound in half tan leather over marbled paper boards with gilt lettering stamped onto the spine, brown laid paper endpapers, McCarthy's signature in black ink on the limitation page, this copy no. 25 of the fifty deluxe copies (there were also 300 standard signed copies), limitation and title pages in brown and black; octavo size (8 1/2" by 5 5/8"), pagination: [i-iv] [1-4] 5-292 [1, Dedication]. Housed in the publisher's slipcase covered with dark brown cloth, a facsimile of the author's signature stamped in gilt onto one side.

___CONDITION: Fine, the leather smooth and supple, the marbled boards clean and unrubbed, straight corners without rubbing, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; the book was likely not read as it still has that "tight" feel, it is clean, crisp, and as new. The slipcase is near fine, strong and sturdy with no splits or tears, the gilt facsimile signature bright; while the cloth covering is unworn, there are a few light, stray spots. Overall a remarkable copy.

___POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please inquire for details.
