New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1954. Hardcover. Near fine/Very good. Later printing. Inscribed by Marcia Brown to Charlotte Huck opposite the title page. Huck (1922-2005) was an internationally renowned children's literature expert whose classic textbook, Children's Literature in the Elementary School, is now in its tenth edition. A magical adaptation of the classic French fairly tale, translated and illustrated by Marcia Brown (1918-2015), who was awarded the 1955 Caldecott Medal for this work. Small quarto. Original rose cloth binding, with gilt stamping. A near fine copy in the pictorial dust jacket with some mild toning and wear along the extremities.
