About This Item
London: Michael Joseph, [1955]. First U.K. edition. A fine copy in a fine dust jacket with mild dust soiling to the white rear panel. Scarce in superior condition. (31280). Octavo, boards. Published earlier in the U.S. with textual differences as RE-BIRTH (1955). Post nuclear war novel. "In the aftermath of a great nuclear war, the puritanical survivors attempt to root out all genetic mutations. Certain children, however have telepathic ability-and they represent the true hope for a fearful, hidebound human race. Engagingly written, literate, and a bit tame, the novel has long been a set text in British schools." - Pringle, The Ultimate Guide to Science Fiction, second edition (1995), p. 66.
