About This Item

Boston Toronto: Little, Brown and Company, 1955. First Edition. Hardcover in Dust Jacket. Fine/Very Good-. Harry Shaare (dust jacket illustrator). 8vo. Pp. [1-3], 4-296. Endpaper maps. Bound in buff cloth with black lettering stamped on spine. A handsome copy in the pictorial dust jacket, price-clipped, that shows edge-wear and faded spine. Title page continues: "A novel of the golden days of the California trade, of the great ocean race around Cape Horn, of the clipper ships, and of the men - and women - who sailed in them."

The full color dust jacket illustration by Harry Shaare presents the drama of the ship's captain in a state of anxiety in the presence of three languid, well-dressed women. Dust jacket now enclosed in a removable, clear archival sleeve.
