Description:
New York: Farrar Straus Giroux, 1976. Solid copy in its first printing. Unmarked, tight and square. It appears that author placed a name above "from Christopher Isherwood" but it was erased apparenly by an ink eraser as he signed in blue ink. Erasure was complete as nothing can be made out but itl left the gray front endpaper a slightly lighter shade of gray. Owner of book inked (autographed 12/11/76) at bottom of front endpaper. No other markings. Gray boards with silver lettering to spine has cupped spine ends and tiny bit of soiling on rear panel. Price intact jacket is a nice one with no issues. In mylar. . Signed by Author. First American Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Plus/Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Description:
NY: Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1966. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. A fine first edition of Isherwood's memories, ruminations, diary entries, etc for the 1930s, with an ANS to a correspondent and literary admirer in which he clarifies his writing about the influence of E. M Forster in this book. The addresses is Hamilton Wright, a devoted bachelor who lived in the small New England village of Sharon, CT (and Manhattan and Florida). On a pre-stamped USPS postcard dated Aug 12, 1977, Isherwood corrects Wright's impression that Forster wrote Isherwood a letter telling him how to write. Isherwood directs Wright's attention to pages 104-105 of the ISHERWOOD AND HIS KIND where he writes that 'a Forster novel taught Christopher the mental attitude, etc etc' (but) 'as far I remember we (Forster and I) never discussed Forster's mental attitude or writing methods. I never asked him because I feel I got what I needed READING him". Fascinating commentary by one literary gay icon about another.
