The second part bears a separate title page. Complete with 23 lithograph plates, including twenty-one double-page plates and two folding plates. One of the plates is a map; the remainder are diagrams of military movements. Original publisher's illustrated light boards, with a lithograph decoration on spine and a different lithograph vignette on each cover. [14.3 cm.] Housed in original cardboard slipcase covered in marbled paper, with printed paper spine label, and semicircular cut-out at head of front and rear panels (to ease removal of the book from case). A very good or better copy. Hint of wear to spine ends. Moderate soiling to small portion of each board (corresponding to cut-outs in slipcase), with no impact on illustrations. (Military--Canada, Little Black Devils, Military--Canada, Royal Winnipeg Rifle Regiment).

From my personal library collection. Vol 1 is a Near Fine copy, the vinyl cover has left sticky residue. From the Foreword: "This book on the general subject of German pistols was prepared in an attempt to fill a need of the arms collector and student for a woek containing the various makes and models of pistols that were procured for the many German organizations during the Hitler era." 223 pp, many photos and specifications of the various arms in both Vols 1 and 2. Volume 3 has photos and details about holsters. Volume 4 is a list of various items issued to different parts of the Reich. Vols 2, and 4 are Fine, no tears, chips, foxing, etc. Volume 3 is Near Fine with three small spots on the outside of the front board. All are Limited Editions with #1276 of 2000, 333, 363, and874 being the numbers of the respective volumes. This is a scarce and hard set to complete, very valuable for serious collectors. The Pilgrim Press. London. 1913. Fifth (revised) edition. 8vo. (7.5 x 5.4 inches). xvi/1-294pp. Illustrated with 12 full page mono illustrations by various artists. A few pages at the front of the text affected by light foxing but overall a very good clean copy in a fine early leather binding by Austin & Sons Ltd, with their ticket pasted inside back cover. Full red calf, lavish gilt decoration to spine, leather title label in gilt, both boards with gilt ruling/ board edges and inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers, silk head and tailbands. College emblem to front board, in gilt. Marbled block edges. College prize label inside front cover. A lovely presentation of this interesting book.

First American edition of this book. Published by T. Allen, New York, 1792. Binding is fine. Modern half leather and marbled boards by Starr Bookworks. Interior is very good. Has a few stamps from New York Mercantile Library. Edges show foxing, interior is toned, occasional old creases, no vandalism, writing or other issues. Pages remain supple. Lacking old blanks, otherwise complete as issued. Lee was a British born career military officer who sought to lead the Continental Army in place of Washington. Lee is most famous now for his various hasty and leisurely retreats including being captured in his night gown by the British in 1776. After a prisoner exchange in 1778 Lee resumed command only to be court-martialled a few months later for insubordination. He must have had something going for him because he survived 30 years of military encounters where strategic withdrawal was not always an option.
