New York: Pantheon Books, 1974. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. Early Printing. Inscribed by Cormier on the half-title. Near Fine in a Near Fine jacket, unclipped ($13.95), faded at the spine. Brown paper on the boards, a few small stains, pushed at the foot of the spine, gilt lettering on the spine. Square, front hinge a bit weak presumably from being inscribed, clean otherwise. Cormier's classic, frequently challenged young adult novel about secret societies and politics at a catholic high school. Adapted into the 1988 film of the same title.
Synopsis
Robert Cormier (1925-2000) changed the face of young adult literature over the course of his illustrious career. His many books include The Chocolate War , I Am the Cheese , Fade , Tenderness , After the First Death , Heroes , Frenchtown Summer , and The Rag and Bone Shop . In 1991 he received the Margaret A. Edwards Award, honoring his lifetime contribution to writing for teens.
