The Empire Library edition, an October 1895 reprint of the first edition of September of that year. xviii (1) 312pp + Publisher's List. Frontispiece, 1 maps and 3 plans, numerous b/w illustrations from photographs. The guard tissue over the frontis. is heavily foxed, and the title page and frontis. show moderate foxing, but the remainder of the work is clean and tight. Inscribed in pencil on the half-title page "This volume was rescued from bomb wreckage which destroyed 32 Smeaton Road during a raid on the night of 5-6 Nov 1940". .
