Encinitas, Calif: Chimes Publications, 1968. Wraps. Near Fine. 8-1/4 x 10-3/4" stapled photo-illustrated wraps printed in two colors. [34]-[52] pages, four of the issues with a folding flap (containing an order form) attached to the rear wrap. Generally, very good to near fine (the March 1968 and September 1970 issues with some age spots, a few others with some minor rubbing and creasing), with mailing labels (addressed to one George R.Sharpe of Englewood, Colorado) on the rear wraps. Published monthly and bi-monthly between 1942 and 1974 (when it merged with PSYCHIC OBSERVER), CHIMES was, per IAPSOP, "one of the leading spiritualist journals of the period. In addition to news of the movement around the United States, the journal contained a Monthly Children's Corner, reprints of material by famous spiritualists of earlier times, like Hudson Tuttle, and regular contributions by Ron Ormond, Marrie S Miller, Enid S. Smith, Ph.D., Sarah Louise Ford, and other now-forgotten mediums and writers. The journal is most notable today for its extensive lists of mediums and organizations around the United States, listed by area (predominantly in California), and for its advertisements and notices from the myriad spiritualist and occult practitioners of the period, e.g., Thomas C. Kelly, 'Healing Medium for People, Animal Pets and Birds,' Grace Strickland, 'Healer with X-Ray Vision,' 'Modern Loaves and Fishes, actual scientific experiments in food multiplications,' from the Premier College of Technical Metaphysics, 'There are No Incurable Diseases,' etc., and for the forgotten paraphernalia that accompanied their work ('Mystic Lightning!!! At Last! Lift your Vibrations thru the scented, mystical atmosphere of RAINBOW LITE!')." Earlier issues were edited by Bert and Ruth Welch, later issues by June and Leighton Denton.
