About This Item

New York, New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1946. First Edition Later Printing . Hardcover. Fine/VG-. Smith, Jessie Willcox. Lovely vintage edition of Stevenson's classic rhymes for children of all ages, complemented by the gorgeous color illustrations of Jessie Willcox Smith. Orig. published in 1905, this is a 1946 printing of that First Edition, NOT a modern reprint or book club edition, in 125 pages with decorative endpapers, full title page, & 9 full-page, full-color plates by Smith, from her original black-and-white drawings--these are flawless, NO tanning or foxing! Also includes pen-and-ink drawings by Smith throughout the text. With blue cloth-covered boards & a colorful paper pastedown to front cover, this hardcover book is in Near Fine condition: exceptionally clean & bright, binding straight & strong, pages moderately tanned, heavier around edges. NO writing/underlining/highlighting; not ex-lib. Only flaw is light rubbing to corners & spine tips. The unclipped DJ (the original cream colored one, not the purple found on later editions) is VG-, with slight paper loss at both ends of spine, along top edge of back cover, & more lightly at all corners. Scarce in any condition, & nicely protected here in new clear mylar cover. We are also offering a copy with no DJ in worse condition; please see our listing 017070). Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific); later orders, weekends, & holidays ship very next business day.
