About This Item
1961: Vintage Books. Trade Paperback. Good. 5" x 8. 499 Pages. Pages are lightly tanned. Complete clean pages with no marks, stamps or underlining. First 5 pages or so have loosening glue with the remainder of the book fairly tight and square. This Mexican family tell their feelings, their lives, their nature, their ambitions. The stories were taken by tape-recorder over a period of years and under various circumstances. All spoken by the members of the Sanchez family. They tell their feelings, their lives, explain their nature, their actual existence with all the force and drama and seriousness of a large novel. The result is a moving strange tragedy instead of an interview, a questionnaire or a sociological study.
Synopsis
The Children of Sanchez is a 1961 book by American anthropologist Oscar Lewis about a Mexican family living in the Mexico City slum of Tepito, which he studied as part of his program to develop his concept of culture of poverty.
