About This Item
London: George Allen and Unwin Ltd, 1931. Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. 8" by 5". None. A smart copy of this poem from Bengali polymath, Rabindranath Tagore A Pirali Brahmin from Calcutta, Tagore wrote poetry as an eight-year-old. At age sixteen, he released his first substantial poems under the "Sun Lion", which were seized upon by literary authorities as long-lost classics. He graduated to his first short stories and dramasand the aegis of his birth nameby 1877. As a humanist, universalist internationalist, and strident nationalist he denounced the Raj and advocated independence from Britain. In a paper-covered binding. Externally, smart, with just a few marks. Dustwrapper is smart also, with just some sunning to the spine, and foxing to the reverse. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean, with just the odd spot. Fine
