About This Item
Londres: Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, et Brown, 1814. First edition. Leather. Very Good. 11.5" by 8.5". None. A leather bound edition of Lucien Bonaparte's epic poem on the life and reign of Charlemagne. First editions with excellent margins in an excellent quality contemporary full speckled calf binding With an engraved frontispiece to volume I, but missing the folding map of Rome and its Environs to the second volume. Lucien Bonaparte, Prince Francais, 1st Prince of Canino and Musignano (21 May 1775 29 June 1840), born Luciano Buonaparte, was the third surviving son of Carlo Buonaparte and his wife Letizia Ramolino. Lucien was a younger brother of Joseph and Napoleon Bonaparte, and an older brother of Elisa, Louis, Pauline, Caroline and Jrme Bonaparte. Lucien held genuinely revolutionary views, which led to an often abrasive relationship with his brother Napoleon, who seized control of the French government in 1799, when Lucien was 24 Complete in two volumes. Rebacked in calf with speckled boards. Externally, sound, though with some slight wear to the extremities. Three joints are starting. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright, though with some scattered instances of foxing. Some evidence of past worming to the first few pages. Very Good
