Culver City, California, USA: Sony Pictures Classics/Columbia Tristar, 1998. BZ5 - A full screen format edition VHS NTSC tape of a Dutch film directed by Mike Van Diem. "R" rating. A used clean, sound copy with very minor overall shelf wear. The tape is a former rental in excellent condition with only some light surface damage from a label along the bottom edge of the top tape cassette label. The paperboard sleeve shows very minor shelf wear primarily in the form of some light surface rubbing on the back near the bottom edge. A full screen format VHS tape of a notable Dutch foreign language film. This is a film version of a popular classic of Netherland literature, the 1938 novel by Ferdinand Bordewijk. It is set in Rotterdam, Netherlands in the 1920s. The city's most feared baliff, the curse of the poor and an agent of law without compassion is discovered stabbed to death. A self-taught lawyer who was just abale to pass his exams was the last person to see the baliff alive. The police want to know why he visited the old man, and the young barrister is ready to tell the story of a lifetime. This movie is a winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
