A scarce, first edition of this illustrated work on boxing champions of the twentieth century, written by William Inglis. First edition. Bound in the publisher's original cream cloth. Written by American sportswriter, William Inglis. This very scarce work presents the golden age of pugilism, highlighting the champion boxers of the early twentieth century. Inglis explores the magnificent careers of American boxing champs John 'The Mighty' Sullivan, Jim Corbett, Mike Donovan, Theodore Roosevelt, Bob Fitzsimmons, Kid McCoy, James Jeffries, Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney. Illustrated with eight photographic plates. Collated, complete. With the stamp of a 'Collector of Boxing Lore - William J. Broderick Jr.' to the front paste down. Bound in the publisher's original cream cloth. Externally, very good, with light bumping to the extremities. Cloth is lightly soiled, with darkening to the spine and light scattered spotting. The odd spot to endpapers, with a previous owners stamp to the front paste down and the remnants of a label to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean. Very Good
