About This Item
A Promotional Poster entitled "In Celebration of Maurice Sendak," portraying various famous characters created and illustrated by Maurice Sendak. Characters from the following books are featured: "Kenny's Window" (1956); "The Sign on Rosie's Door" (1960); "The Nutshell Library" (1962), comprised of "Pierre," "Alligators All Around," "Chicken Soup with Rice," and "One Was Johnny"; "Where the Wild Things Are" (1963); "In the Night Kitchen" (1970); and "Outside Over There" (1981). Amongst others, the Poster depicts the following Characters; Wild Things, Max, Alligator, Rosie, The Baker, Mickey, and The Lion.
Pen Signed by the artist as "Maurice Sendak" at lower right. Also signed in stone as "Maurice Sendak / Feb. 90" at lower right.
The Poster was originally owned by an agent and friend of Maurice Sendak.
20 * 16 inches. Unframed. In near fine condition.
The poster was originally produced in 1990 ahead of the re-publication of Sendak's earlier books. This poster is one of the original, more scarce promotional posters from 1990. Sendak's re-publication project was delayed, and the poster image was eventually revised and printed in 2001 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the beginning of Sendak's career as a children's book artist. The 10-year delay prevented a wider distribution of the original poster from 1990.
