Práce, Praha, 1979. First edition thus. Hardcover. Josef Liesler. 174pp. Quarto [30 cm] Black cloth over boards with gilt and blind stamped titles on the spine and front cover. Very good. The covers are a bit warped, and the edges of the spine and covers are lightly rubbed and bumped. The half title page is partially detached. The dust jacket is in very good condition, with intermittent small closed and open tears in the edges, and a small stain on the front panel. Preface by Kamil Bednar. Illustrated by Josef Liesler. A Czech language edition of Cawdor. This work adjusts the Hippolytus-Phaedra theme to fit the Big Sur coast.

A cancelled ex-Institute library copy; the library’s binder reinforced the backstrip with cloth which has been partly removed to reveal the original title and the library’s number which was added by hand; additional library brown paper endpapers, front and rear, with label, stamps etc. including label on rear board; some damage to backstrip where external hinges split; internally a clean tight very good copy and most suitable for re-binding.

The Hogarth Press, 1929. Hardcover. Good. 1929. No edition remarks. 159 pages. No dust jacket. This is an ex-Library book. Red cloth covered boards with gilt. Book has been rebound by library, with expected inserts, stamps and inscriptions. Pages remain bright and clean with minimal tanning and foxing. Binding remains firm. Boards have moderate shelf wear with mild bumping and fraying to corners and crushing and fraying to spine ends. All surfaces heavily tanned, particularly spine. Gilt lettering to spine is slightly dulled.

New York: Liveright, 1928. First Edition. First printing, trade issue. Quarter black cloth in dust jacket; 8vo. 160 pp. A very good copy, the black top stain clean, spine gilt a bit dull, gentle wear; the fair to good dust jacket is price-clipped, worn at all edges, the front flap separated, with a portion of the spine missing (in a protective mylar cover).

London: Leonard & Virginia Woolf at The Hogarth Press, 1929. First UK edition. Reportedly there were only 500 copies printed of which 270 were subsequently pulped [Broomfield A29c]. Issued as "Hogarth Living Poets, First Series, No.12." 8vo orange paper boards with flat spine; issued without a dust jacket. A good copy at best with dampstaining to and along spine and fragile paper covering cracked and flaking at hinges but text block clean and relatively fresh. Quite scarce.
