About This Item
New York: Putnam, 1868. Print. Very good overall. A specimen page for "Home Book of the Picturesque" , by the Hudson River School artist John F. Kensett. This was a promotional piece to entice buyers to purchase the book. The image is possibly Kaaterskill or Haines Falls in the Catskills. Kensett was a member of the Hudson River School of painting, considered the first American school of art. The oval image features Native Americans on a rock below waterfalls. Printed in the lower margin; "Specimen Plate : Home Book of the Picturesque, Putnam, New York. Engraved by H. Beckwith. Printed by Coats & Cosine." With facsimile title and signature by Kensett. Approx 4 x 5 1/2 ", paper 11 1/2 x 8 1/4". Paper a little marked with a shadow of a wrinkle and some very faint foxing.
