Octavo; viii, 240pp; dark green basket-weave cloth with stamped white lettering to front and gilt-stamped spine, color illustration onlay to front board of a putti or Kewpie about to carve a turkey; illustrated endpapers; 7 half-tone photographic illustrations; ownership in neat ink to free front endpapers; color pictorial dust jacket, lightly chipped and soiled; fine in very good minus dj. First edition. Famed cookbook author, Fannie Farmer's book dedicated to celebrating the holidays and special occasions with festive food and menus. Farmer (1857-1915) was the daughter of a printer and editor, and expected to complete higher education, but at the age of 16 she suffered a stroke which left her bedridden and in her parent's care for years. During a slow recovery she started cooking and turned her mother's house into a boarding house known for high quality. During her recovery, she attended Boston Cooking School where she became first an assistant and later principal of the school.
