About This Item

London, The Trustees of the British Museum (Natural History), 1894-1895. Two volumes in two. 8vo (21.2 x 14.0 cm). 526 pp. (xl, 181, 18; [xi], 257, 19); 20 [3; 17] text illustrations, 31 [11, 20] lithographed plates. Uniform embossed cloth. Gilt title on the spines. Yellow endpapers. An unusually well-preserved, uniform set of this finely illustrated work on Jurassic plants. Many species are little known or new, and usually well-preserved. Written by the eminent british botanist Sir Albert Charles Seward (1863-1941). "Seward's studies of Mesozoic palaeobotany earned him membership of the Royal Society at the youthful age of thirty-five" (Wikipedia). Presentation bookplate of the BM(NH) on front pastedowns, small stamp in the lower margin of both title pages, otherwise very good, unmarked.
