Sotheby Parke Bernet & Co., London, auction catalogue for the sale held on 22nd April 1980. Green printed wrappers, small 4to,. 156 pp, plates (some colour). 353 lots. Among the highlights noted were the following: " ... Mughal miniatures from the 16th to 19th century including two illustrations to the Jami al-Tavarikh, Mughal, c. 1596-1600; a portrait by Govardhan, Mughal, early seventeenth century; Deccani and Central Indian miniatures from the 16th to 19th century including a portrait of the minister Saif al-Mulk leading a hunting party, Hyderabad, second half of eighteenth century; Rajasthani and Pahari miniatures from the 17th to 19th century including a holy man eating a boar's head in the presence of a Mughal emperor, Kishangarh, c. 1740; a portrait of Maharana Sangram Singh, Mewar, c. 1720; calligraphy and illumination from the 14th to the 20th century; Persian miniatures from the 14th to the 19th century including a portrait of a standing youth, signed by Riza-I Abbasi, Isfahan, c. 1625; Persian, Arabic, Ottoman, Armenian, Indian and South-East Asian manuscripts and printed books from the 14th to the 19th century including Sa'di's Kulliyat illustrated with eight miniatures in the court Turkman style, c. 1460-70; Nizami's Khamsa illustrated with twenty-four miniatures, Qazwin/Mashhad dated 1580; the Four gospels in Armenian, copied and illuminated by Karapet of Berkri, S.E. Turkey, fifteenth century; Persian lacquer including a mirror-case in the style of Najaf, Qajar dated 1858. Near Very Good.
