London: Sampson Low, Marston, Searle & Rivington, 1882. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good +. FIRST EDITION, 1882. THREE VOLUME SET. This book comes from the library of Maurice Sendak. Sendak was a prominent author and illustrator of children's books best know for his book "Where the Wild Things Are". He was a recipient of the Hans Christian Anderson Award for his lasting contribution to children's literature. Sendak was a collector of George MacDonald books. Like most of Sendak's books, this copy does not contain Sendak's bookplate but comes with a certificate from the auction firm which establishes the provenance of the book. Three volumes in the original brown cloth boards with a black border on the front cover. Gilt text on the spine. Volume 1 has a frontispiece. 334, 307 plus 32p of ads, 374 pp. Shaberman 69. Minor wear at extremities and bumped corners. Binding are solid. Small stickers inside front covers but no names. Due to the size and weight of this set, an additional shipping charge may apply.
