About This Item

Brooklyn, NY: Restless Books, 2019. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. As New/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. Brooklyn, NY: Restless Books, 2019. Hardcover. As New/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 263 pages. The author's fifth book to be translated into English. One of Andri Snaer Magnason's finest achievements. The first appearance of the title in English and in the United States. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The book is very beautifully produced and features dazzling original art by Katla Ros and Ragnar Mar on the cover. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Andri Snaer Magnason's "Timakistan" in a felicitous English translation. From Iceland, which contributes to world culture disproportionately, an enchanting and thoughtful time travel narrative. "Teen-ager Sigrun is sick of all the apocalyptic news about The Situation and her parents' obsession with it. Sigrun's family, along with everyone else, decides to hibernate in their TimeBoxes, hoping for someone else to fix the world's problems. But when Sigrun's TimeBox opens too early, she discovers an abandoned city overrun by wilderness and joins a band of kids who are helping a researcher named Grace solve The Situation. The world, according to Grace, is under an ancient curse. There once was a princess named Obsidiana, who was trapped in time by the greedy King of Pangea. To protect Obsidiana from dark and gloomy days, the king put her in a crystal casket made of spider silk woven so tightly that time couldn't penetrate it. The king's greed for power doomed his kingdom and the trapped princess. Sigrun sees eerie parallels between the tale of Obsidiana and the present-day crisis, and realizes it's up to her and her friends to break the ancient curse and fix the world" (Publisher's blurb) . "The love child of Chomsky and Lewis Carroll" (Rebecca Solnit) . An absolute "must-have" title for Andri Snaer Magnason collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed and inscribed in black ink-pen on the front free endpaper by the author: "Best best, Andri Snaer Magnason". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. There is no recipient named. Magnason also added above his signature a lovely cartoon-drawing of Sigrun embarked on her time travel adventure. This title is a contemporary classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed and inscribed (with original drawing) copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing (American) available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare signed copy thus. One of the most brilliant writers of our time. A fine collectible copy. . ISBN 1632062054.
