About This Item

New York, J. J. Little & Ives Co., 1909. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. Red cloth with a portrait of McDonald pasted on, some wear to the covers, top of the spine tender, a very good copy. First edition Adams One-Fifty 110. Guns 1669: A biography of one of the better-known Texas Rangers, this volume deals with many Texas and Oklahoma outlaws. Published by subscription, it was issued in three different bindings simultaneously, each to fit the subscribers pocketbook. The most expensive was bound in full morocco, the next in red cloth with a portrait of McDonald pasted on, and the third and cheapest, the one most commonly seen, in blue cloth. Basic Texas Books 158: This is the life of the most famous Texas Ranger of the time, the man who it was said would charge hell with a bucket of water. It is also the origin of the most famous of all Texas Ranger stories, one that had been falsely attributed to almost every other Texas Ranger captain, living and dead: when McDonald arrived on a train to quell a riot, he was asked why he had come alone; he replied, well, there was only one mob, wasnt there? Dobie p. 60. Howes P14.
