NY: Harper & Brothers, Publisher. VG. 1863. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Volume One only, first edition bound in black cloth with a blind stamp ed design of an oriental mythical beast on the front board, floral des ign on the spine and gold spine lettering. Black & white Illustrations , fold-out map of Japan in near fine condition. A Very Good copy. The corners are lightly bumped and have tiny rub marks. Head of spine has tiny frays. Cloth covers have a few small chips, one is 4cm long and thin and runs at the top edge of the rear board gutter. Two very small chips, 1cm size or less appear on the front gutter of the spine. The spine is split from the cover but the binding is still firm. Gift insc ription penciled on front fly else contents are clean, tight & unmarke d. A solid, clean copy. .
