Also illustrated with many full page and smaller engravings; several posed photos of the author in his Canadian clothing; several photos of Indians under his ministry. This is a somewhat difficult book to judge as to first edition due to the enormous popularity it had in its day. I believe this 1890 printing bound in the plain dark red cloth is at the least a very early issue published in a small printing. I believe the later printings were bound in the more expensive pictorial cloth. I've read it and it is a great read. A missionary with a sense of humor. Corners with light to moderate wear and bumping; spine moderately worn at top and bottom; couple of small white marks on the spine; light damp staining to the rear cover top; some internal foxing mostly in the light range.
