About This Item
Montreal: Wm. Drysdale & Co, 1886. 12mo, original russet cloth, gilt. 118, (2) pages. Front joint cracked; institutional stamp on title. Very good. Quite rare. As the author states in his preface, ìThe present Essay ... attempts to place in an accessible form much information scattered over many volumes, journals and MSS. Moreover, it brings to public notice the creation of the important public department of Archives, with some account of its establishment: a department by which the study of Canadian History must be greatly advanced.î Kingsford is best known to modern numismatists for his important 1874 work on the Vexator tokens, A Canadian Political Coin. While the present work is not numismatic in focus, it provides much interesting context for numismatic study.
