About This Item
Heritage Press, 1955. Hardcover. Near Fine. Near fine cloth hardcover (no dust jacket) shows a previous owner blindstamp at bottom corner of half title page, in very good + slipcase that shows a light bit of soil, faint stain at bottom edge and shelf wear. 231 pages with Sandglass insert and illustrations by Bernard Lamotte with translation by Edmund Gosse. Still a good looking copy of this notable novel that makes up an installment in the line from Heritage Press.
Synopsis
Alexandre Dumas, fils, wrote this tale to provide a near autobiographical account of his affair with Marie Duplessis, a well-to-do Parisian courtesan who died of consumption in 1847. The story is set in the mid-1800’s, as main character Armand completes his schooling and falls in love with the lovely Marguerite, a kept woman who adores camellia flowers. This tale is the source for the opera, La Traviata.
