A second printing or, perhaps, edition, with both the original author's "Advertisement" dated 1855, and a subsequent entry dated at Edgbaston, February 8, 1856. This is followed by an erratum notice, which probably indicates that the printing of the main text was not altered. Publisher's "Popular Library" advertisements to endpapers and four pages at rear. [iv+]iv,296+4[ads]pp. Frontispiece plus additional (decorative) title-page. Original publisher's decorative stamped cloth hard covers, with gilt titling to spine. Professionally rebacked, preserving most of the original back-strip. Mild bumping and soiling; edges toned. Old owners' names to first blank page, and later ink-stamp to title-page. Otherwise clean, tight and unmarked. Very neat -- a sound and handsome copy of this rare early issue..
